Reasons to feel good about hiring in 2016:

1. We have a real federal budget (not a Continuing Resolution)
2. IRS got a $290mm budget increase, which can be spent up until the end of FY 2017.
3. Many agents have retired recently and are continuing to retire; they will eventually need to be replaced
4. There are only about 40 people left to be cleared out from prior hiring announcements. That's one FLETC class plus a few extras.
5. Most of us on this board are either already on the Ready List (shout out to my 2009/2011 brothers and sisters), or have passed all 4 Phases of the hiring process and will likely receive TOs very soon.

Also, it just occurred to me that we are overdue for our monthly notification - Not reading anything into it though, people are probably just on vacation.

Yes, here is to hoping 2016 is the year.

Even my wife is starting to get anxious about it. Normally this process doesn't interest her too much except when we were actually going through the phases and getting results. However, we always do an annual budget and I make alternates for potential life events and different things.

For a couple years now I've always made an alternate for getting this or another 1811 gig. This year especially she was not happy about the drop off that would occur and wants to go ahead and get that done with so I can start climbing back up the pay scale. Kind of funny and sad at the same time.

Well did you ever ask?

No, if we don't get an update email tomorrow I will try to ask.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but does anyone know if IRS CI offers exemptions to applicants that cannot meet the 20/200 vision requirements, but have worn contacts for a while with no issues (in my case 10 years)?

I'm getting depressed about the vision issue. I even bought a Snellen chart to practice and hope my vision gets better haha.

Hi DP,

As far as I know the IRS does not offer exemptions. Your uncorrected vision must be 20/200; no such exemptions if you wore contacts for a year like with the FBI.

Going a little off topic, I shot some questions off to Cinci. I will post here whenever they respond.

Thanks! I sent the Chief a note on LinkedIn asking if he would consider changing the rule and adapt to the FBI's rule for folks like me who would hate to lose a spot because of poor eyesight. Haha, I will not go down without a fight!

Have you decided against the PRK? It's expensive but there's so many pros even if you decide not to go with IRS CI. Very funny about the note to the Chief. I say valiant effort!

Oh and PE gets information at the same time as we get the information. They know nothing more or nothing less than us. We could probably could layoff any questions we have for PE. Give him a break when the firestorm of questions come out after TOs

Like I mentioned in the last thread, if you don't meet that 20/200 start looking for another job. It's not just IRS that's all Treasury and they'll pull you out of FLETC if it's determined your vision doesn't meet standards. Seriously look into LASIK though, it would be a shame for the IRS to lose someone so determined to get the job due to a vision technicality...

The delay in the monthly update email has me thinking that maybe something is in the works. Of course, it could also just mean they are busy in Cincinnati and forgot to send the email, but I like to be optimistic.

I had that thought as well, but I think LLCL (or another internal) mentioned that a lot of people take vacation time during the first few weeks of january (probably to avoid losing time-off carried over from the prior year or something) so it could also be that people are out of the office. Not to be a pessimist though haha.

Correct, tomorrow marks the end of the year for use or lose purposes...then you have to catch up, etc. or you could be like me and just forfeit leave bc you can't take it all :)

Next week starts pay period 1 so maybe an update next week. I just hope this is the last update we receive before TOs.

I've been looking back to 2011 and 2009 threads and I'm jealous that they got their TOs so quickly lol. Im trying to figure out what's worse waiting for the call or waiting for the TOs
