The BRAC 2015 thread in the DoD forum is OBE by now.

Any speculation/rumors/tea-leaf reading on BRAC 2016?

I have not heard anything so I wonder if any such decisions will be put off til after the 2016 elections. Just the sort of courageous thing we have come to expect :)

Here's an article about what could be the first steps toward another round of BRAC:

http://www.militarytimes...biggest-impact/83082930/

Doesn't sound like anything is going to happen in 2016 but who knows about the years to come.

In a bit of understatement, the article notes that base closings are difficult decisions because lawmakers fight to keep bases in their district open... and keep the good-paying jobs, too.

Another article about BRAC planning, this one from DefenseNews.

No details, just early planning, including DoD trying to get Congress engaged in reducing base infrastructure.

Doesn't sound like anything will happen during this election year!

BRAC without a BRAC

Pentagon threatens to close military bases without BRAC

Headline: The Pentagon is threatening to start closing down unneeded military bases unilaterally if Congress continues to refuse to launch a new Base Closure and Realignment Commission.

Another BRAC article

Constituents to Congress: Let’s Get BRAC Over With

The way I read it, there is not much interest in Congress for another BRAC (many think the last round saved too little and cost too much) but local governments are already preparing for it.
